Anyways, so I was just playing another game, and some other alien empire opens the fucking L-gate. it's ridiculous how hard the default game is for inexperienced players. I've had to reduce the number of alien empires, no advanced AI starts, etc. I should be increasing the difficulty as the game progresses. So I tweak my game settings, lower some sliders to make it easier for myself, but honestly.
But still, it's the L-gate that allowed the unbidden to systematically take over the entire map. It was game over, but that's apparently my fault for researching (and making use of) dangerous technology. At one point I opened the L-gate, and was so happy! I had fleets in the 50k ~ 70k range, and was happily defeating the L-gate aliens, and then the unbidden warp into the game right next to an L-gate, and take over the whole gate network.
